Surrounded

I was playing around with representing mental health, specifically the depression that I experience. In this one of a kind piece, I wanted to show how depression can wrap around you and create a barrier to the outside. Just as good feelings are varied, so is depression. By having mirrored colours in both the light area and the dark area it shows that feelings of depression and contentedness are two sides of the same coin.

• Created with naturally dyed wool, cotton, velvet, silk, merino, angora, and synthetic fibres.

• 14" hoop

 Many of the fibres used were handcrafted and purchased from other small businesses and includes my own hand spun yarn.

I have tried to represent the colours as accurately as possible, but due to differences in screens, the colours may look a little different in person.
